This channel is dedicated to videos for the home gardener. There is also a fair amount of Bill's home grown music sprinkled though out. I believe that world peace can be found through cultivating lettuce and mastering slide guitar. Older videos were shot in California and the latest are done on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Everything has a pattern of form. The mind seems to understand them automatically.

I just watched a video about starting the pineapple in water. After watching this , I agree with you and won't use the water method.
And now we get Tim Walz, a teacher, a coach, a solid family man raised in Nebraska! The antithesis to Vance. ❤
I find it so hard to believe there are actually Americans that would favor Trump and Vance. These two are a walking disaster.
Don't take them to school😂😂😂😂 epic. I'm dying😂😂😂😂
Make sure to share with the teacher.
This makes me think of Buckminster Fuller. I too have always been quite good at recognizing patterns, and blindfold testing. This falls under that category of "Things that will get you in trouble with normal people."
Lucky for me I seldom hang out with normal people.
Ya, I'm an artist. After realizing the parterns of things I can now draw stuff without looking at it. I just go to the partern and build from there
Human ability to store and recognize patterns is amazing.
Patterns are everything. I recently saw a DW Documentary on the language of whales and how humans are using Ai to detect patterns and decode their language. It is within the realm of possibility that in the not too distant future we'll be able to communicate with whales.
I recall John Lilly and dolphins. I once tried his isolation tanks.
Should I be nervous about traveling to Helio during April, will rain ruin my vacation?
The rain in Hilo is pretty much even year round. I would count on rain.
It was the Good Bad Ugly video where I found you, Bill. lol Im getting pushed out of Vegas by Californians! They can have it, all the steak and egg deals are gone anyways.
Where will everyone go next.

Nope, their growth is as amazing as organic life.

Not the whole picture by any means, just a corner of the story. Our ability to recognize patterns is amazing.
Went looking how to prune raspberries in August - and you popped up! What a refreshing and genuine person to listen to and learn from. You would be the greatest neighbor to have. Haha! yes the Tidy Bowl Man scare. Thank you. Starting a media fast and going to work on the raspberries after they finish producing.
Congratulations for finding the channel. It tends to be illusive. Aloha
Completely accurate commentary...if you are someone who prefers a pretty painted facade to a high quality of life, don't come here, we're doing just fine without you.
We can hope the Islands nature is somewhat self regulating. Lava, isolating, material shortages are not something most Americans like much.
I spent most of my life wanting to move away. The furthest I got was O'ahu. Spent 3 years working in Waikiki and then scurried my okole back to Puna haha
Escaping the birth place is pretty normal.
home depot , target , walmart the mall the airport all were built on Hawaiian homeland and many families were displaced because of it and none of the Hawaiians receive any compensation from these giant entities nor do they receive any compensation from the tourism other then low paying jobs . all the moneys goes straight into the pockets of the state zero reason Hilo town shouldn't be a gem of the Hawaiian islands the money is there . Tourism has tripled since covid along with folks moving here from the mainland . here in Keaukaha all they did was widen the road fix up the beach parks to accommodate the tourist we went from a thousand people a day to ten thousand still our town looks third world . like the rest of Hawaii the cost of living has quadrupled in the last few yrs but the pays the same why ? Hilo was the place to be back in the day the last strong hold from mainstream Hawaii but like stated the only folks profiting is the state thats why hilo looks like it does they cant even keep the grass medians on the road mowed anymore shameful . there argument is because its in a tsunami zone cant get insurance banks won't give loans all the local Hilo beautification bank and state run programs have dried up because of it . blaming the weather is a band aide on an open wound . this town has seen more money coming in the last 20 yrs then ever before and yet we are going backwards ... How come Mitch ?
Huh?
I don't have a great knowledge of plants, but I like to read about physics. I like when someone is talking about something and I'm able to apply one or more bits of knowledge to what they are saying. I can explain to them why what they are saying is true, or how it is in fact impossible. Don't know how or why my mind is able to do it. That information is just sitting up there waiting for its time.
Some of us have the knack. I answered horticultural questions for years. I knew when to head for the books though.

It seems I may have missed that one.
Been here in Puna for four years now at 850ft altitude off the 130 and living anywhere else is just not on the horizon. Loving the videos Bill and thank you for expressing why embracing Aloha is so good for the soul and that paradise is a state of mind. Mahalo
You are very welcome.
Do us Big Island folks a favor, Don’t move here.

I am still a Covid virgin at 73…and I intend to keep it that way…When I flew back to my mainland home after being at my “almost local” home on the BI…I didn’t care about the looks on the plane…I wear designer K95 masks to match my colorful outfits…I have fun with it. Right there with you on the microbiome care…been doing that for years after studying aging…Bill, you live in one of the most incredible Blue Zones and it is perfect for us retired musician elders…thanks for sharing your beautiful self
I have not resisted vaccination but neither have I been very timely about them. Back during the peak of covid, I wore a mask despite hating the thing. I tend to stick to the farm so social contact is mostly with friends and family. I got the first case by sharing a beer with my son when we were both well. The next day he fell ill. I have friends that have children in school. The latest version of covid was circulating in the schools and friends brought it to me some how. After 3 or 4 shots and two infections I hope to be pretty resistant because I have grown tired of all the precautions.
Thanks for another interesting video Bill ❤.
You're welcome. Another day, another thought.
At 73 and a retired musician too, this made me smile…when I am at BI this winter…love to spend some time with you….I will be traveling with a my bandmate musician friend…he actually was a bassist decades ago in Hawaii…we are both “retiring” to BI…you are definitely part of the musical crew…great video Bill
Thanks for the feed back. I hope your change to Big Island works out well for you. The Island attracts many different sorts of folks. Only so many of them are well adapted to life here. It's a good place to be compared to many other spots on the planet. Aloha
Nice. Just harvested my first giant passionfruit on my farm on the Andes mountains.
I like the fact that the juice is low acid and the fruit pulp can be eaten. Green fruit are eaten like squash. The ripe ones are okay in mixed fruit salad with lots of juice.
Another wonderful personal perspective video, Bill! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
we had a week of rain with localized flooding, now onto bake and broil heat advisories this week here
Lovely weather! I do not miss that stuff but the volcanoes keep life interesting here.
Probably like me, you spent a past life there.
Maybe.
Bill, I was wondering, in your opinion, where is the least wet, habitable area on the east side?
Habitable, that is a matter of opinion. The driest area of Puna is the south east shore and the strip on the south up to Volcanoes National Park. The rain in this area is half. Since it is pure lava, it is really dry. It is also one of the riskiest lava areas in Puna. Most people still there either rebuilt after the flows or just got lucky. Places that didn't get lava recently are quite nice. Way too strange, far away from stuff and risky for my tastes. I suspect mud, rats and mosquitoes are few and far between out on the flows.
I grew up in Coos Bay Oregon area, just a short distance from the ocean. Temperatures stayed about 50-65F all day, year round. A little too mild, could use more heat for my taste. Interesting how metal roofs seem so popular in the Hilo area with the corrosion.
We do not have an extensive public water system here. The pipes from County wells only follow the main roads and towns. I spent 8 grand running a pipe from the highway to get hooked. Since making wells here is next to impossible and extremely expensive, most people use the roof to catch rain water for the house. Painted metal is the best material for catchment, easy to clean, no gravel, no tar taste. Asphalt shingle is very heavy. Everything is shipped here. The metal comes in big rolls and is processed into roofing on Island. It is much lighter and cheaper per sq foot. Everything here has to be repainted about every 7 years, the roof is no exception. Alaska uses mostly steel roof too because of shipping.
I’m from Las Vegas, and Coos Bay is an excellent place to spend the summer. Beautiful, cool temps in July, and the fish is fresh! 🤙
@@Kensington.Island It's quite pleasant weather there in the morning, but in the summer time, from about lunch time until evening, there's a strong breeze (20-25mph) that comes off the ocean and feels really chilly.
@@Kensington.Island used to do the snow bird thing in my youth. I don't travel much anymore. Puna is good year round.
I love Puna and would rather be surrounded by ocean than surrounded by humans🤙🏼
I agree but I try not to let it sound like this spot is as good as it really is. Make it sound too good and we will be surrounded by people. That has happened to me almost everywhere I ever lived. The public word is, it rains all the time, the termites eat the tires off your truck and the volcanoes, oh the volcanoes!
Kinda with ya man on social media. Im trying to shut it off more and more now
It hardly seems good for us. This channel is the only toe I stick into the internet and hardly a day goes by that someone doesn't step on it. At 73 I have met just about every form or moronic butt head on earth so there is little new. If I was 14 years old, I would see it differently. I might actually believe what other people tell me. Aloha

Aloha, a bunch of cool cats 🐈 🤙🏻
All one. We were blessed to have such a fine cat arrive on it's own. She was feral and part of the natural cat distribution system.
I can see her one day slipping when her feet are wet walking on that rim. Not good.
You got a cock fighting ring next door, or feral population…..or both? 😂
Tilapia in the last stock tank?
Yes, last tank. The water is clear enough to see them but light reflection and the fact the dart up and back down so fast I have to catch them at rest.
@@GreenGardenGuy1 you eat those tilapia ever, or just pets? Thy aren’t exactly as tasty as what’s in the ocean out there, but it’s a resource.
@@Kensington.Island The point of raising the Tilapia was for food. At this elevation, it has been 2 years and the fish are still under harvest size. Warmer areas grow them faster. The flavor of Tilapia depends on the food they eat and quality of the water they swim in. The skin takes in the flavor of the environment. In HI, with lots of rain, the fish usually tastes good. From a mud hole they taste bad. Because we have no lakes and few streams or rivers, fresh water fish in HI is very rare. The really good salt water stuff is best caught using a good size boat here. I'm no sailor so I pay the fishermen for the stuff. It is well worth the money but the Tilapia are cheaper to eat.
Aloha Gray-C you're looking marvelous today!
